Jesus is here laying out what it means to be a true disciple. He speaks of those who are TRULY his disciples. there might be some people who go to church, are part of ministries, they like Jesus, they might read the Bible on occasion. Probably they want to go to heaven, maybe they can claim good works, a good life, maybe an element of Christian faith has existed in their family for many generations. But this can all be true and people still not be truly Jesus’ disciple.
Jesus says a true disciple abides in his word and with Jesus. we are disciples of Jesus. He is the centre of our lives now. To do this gives us true freedom.
