The people want to make Jesus king by force and yet he withdraws from them.  He knows his purpose and is not tempted to deviate.  Sending his disciples away he then comes to them during a storm walking on water.  The key point is to see that Jesus comes to them and therefore to you in the storm.  Jesus gets in the boat and who he is, enables him to do that.  Getting in the boat there is no record here that he calms the storm nor does he offer his power to the disciples to calm their fear, rather he says, It is I – He offers himself.   Whatever you are going through right now, Jesus is here and he is enough.  Greater even than coming to us in the storms of life, Jesus has come to us in our deepest need, the forgiveness of our sin.
