John 19:28-30 – Good Friday – “I am Thirsty”

“Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” John 19:28-30

The reason why I picked this particular word from the cross was to demonstrate to us that Jesus was a human being. Simply put it describes the fact that Jesus was like us in every respect except for sin. Jesus knew what it was to feel pain, to be thirsty, to feel hurt and disappointment. There on the cross, fully displayed to the world, was a man in utter distress!
