The Christian life is often described as a race. But what kind of race is it exactly? For most people it is certainly not a sprint! Instead we are called to what Eugene Peterson labelled ‘A Long Obedience in the Same Direction’. In other words, living as disciples of the Lord Jesus throughout the seasons and ages of life until he returns or calls us home. In the 1st and 2nd Letters to Timothy the Apostle Paul seeks to prepare his young protégé Timothy to live for, and serve, Jesus for the rest of his life. There is much that we can learn from these letters as we think about what it means to be followers of Jesus in 21st Century Australia.
