“Discipleship 101 (Part 2): What is a Disciple?”
November 30, 2022
Speaker: Gerald Vanderkolk
Text:
I suspect that the word “disciple” doesn’t necessarily mean that they were all converted because some did fall away but it means that these people were doing life with Jesus. Other’s might use the words, “Learners of Jesus.” After all, Jesus taught us this, “Not everyone who says Lord, Lord, will enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Joshua 11, “Violence in the Old Testament.” (Topical)
May 29, 2022
Speaker: Gerald Vanderkolk
Text:
When discussing the violence of God in the Old Testament we have to a number of presuppositions. Firstly, itt isn’t really an option to say that God was unfair, unjust or unmerciful! God is holy and we are not! God has every right to judge us but we have no right to judge God. Secondly, is that we are limited in our understanding of Scripture and that we can be quick to judge wrongly. My second presupposition is that we often get it wrong because we read Scripture wrong. We are limited in our understanding. So, we always approach Scripture with a good dose of humility, trying to understand what God is telling us.

Still Worried (Worry – part 2)
May 23, 2021
Speaker: Steven Goring
Text:
In this 2nd sermon on worry, we consider that sometimes or worry comes from a lack of faith. We also have to ask if we treasure the things on earth more than we treasure God and trust him when he gives us what we don’t want or does not give us what we do want. In Jesus, we see a man who did not worry. Not about his life, death or praise of man. His death and resurrection means that we can be in a relationship with him, part of his kingdom and live a life of no worries. We like Jesus can know the perfect love of the father, a love that drives out fear and worry.

No Worries!
April 11, 2021
Speaker: Steven Goring
Text:
In this first part of 2 sermon’s, we consider what the bible has to say about worry. Whether long term or short, whether significant or even insignificant, worry is weighty. Worry can consume us, it can change how we think and feel and act, it can paralyse us, it can limit and reduce our lives in a way which very little else can. And it is something that affects so many people. we worry about many things but likely they all fall into 2 categories – something we want to happen and doesn’t or something we do not want to happen that might. Yet, God in the bible says to us, Do not Worry! How can this be so?

Good Friday – Does suffering have meaning?
April 19, 2019
Speaker: Gerald Vanderkolk
Text:
One of the problems that I have faced when it comes to talking about suffering is this! When someone asks they would like to know the answer in approximately one minute or less. I personally do not think it is possible to answer the question in a minute or less. The next problem is phrasing ourselves properly. When I was playing squash and someone from the team was diagnosed with cancer, I was asked about it and yet, I wasn’t given much of an opportunity to respond. This morning I want to look at the question, knowing that I will only scratch the surface of the topic.
