The sixth part of our series: “Seven Events that Defined Our World.” Today we look at The Tower of Babel from Genesis 11. At the Tower of Babel, mankind attempted to become God, but God in his mercy scattered them so that one day through his Son, he would gather them together as his people.

The second part of our series: “Seven Events that Defined Our World.” “In Genesis 2, we see a beautiful picture of God and his perfect design for mankind.

This is the first part of a new sermon series entitled “Seven Events that Defined Our World.” This morning we focus on Creation, which is the foundation to this all. In this sermon Gerald explores this statement in light of the Creation account found in the first chapter of Genesis: “if it isn’t literally true it isn’t valuable.”

Do you pray for the things happening in the world around you? How do you pray? In this sermon we are encouraged to let out a fervent cry to our faithful Lord who is always ready to listen to us.

In terms of our understanding Adam and Eve’s sin has also affected the world. Their sin caused a catastrophic change and the result is all sorts of so called “natural” disasters. The devastating bush fires, a volcanic explosion that seemed to come out of no-where (Mount White – NZ Dec. 2019). A tsunami or cyclone. Not only were human beings deeply scarred by Adam’s sin but also the world. Yet, as God cursed Satan we see a ray of light that finds its culmination in the birth of Christ in Bethlehem.

In the final part of our series on disciple-making we consider where Disciples are to be made. The short answer is anywhere! Wherever there are people, there is an opportunity to do something or say something that can potentially move someone step closer to God – whether a believer or not. The sermon considers that the 2 key places though must be Church and the Home. Every time we come to church, we can come not as consumers, but come ready and willing to love and serve one another. IN fact in being commanded to love one another – there is no better time or place than at church, and no more loving a thing we could do than to help someone move closer to God, through our witness, encouragement, challenge and prayer. The home must also be a place where spousal relationships seek to honour God and where parents seek to point their families to God through their own example, words and actions.

Are you a man or woman of faith? Do you believe in the Promises of God to you?  Eve’s disobedience brought untold misery to the world. Yet, I believe we will meet her again in heaven, for only one reason. She was a woman of hope. She believed in the Promises of God. Surely that is what it is to be one of God’s people!
